War in the Towns.
The airbases of the 8th USAFF may have been located in the rural areas of the region, however East Anglia’s towns played an invaluable part in the war effort. Whether as transportation hubs, places of rest and relaxation, or the home to industries supporting the allied campaign, places such as Luton, Peterborough, Ipswich, Norwich and Colchester came closer than any other places in the region to experiencing Total War.
