What remains (or sometimes, what little remains) of the airfields is one of the most evocative legacies of the American presence in East Anglia during the Second World War.
The 8AF have long gone but look on google maps, or some of the images provided on this site and you will soon notice the remains of former airfields and their buildings. They offer us a gateway to the past, providing a tangible link to the memories of local people and veterans.
